Bury St Edmunds and Haverhill

The 'message in a bottle' scheme was launched as joint initiative between local Neighbourhood Watch groups, Suffolk Police, and St Edmundsbury Borough Council, in September 2001, with around 10,000 bottles being distributed initially to the elderly and vulnerable in Bury St Edmunds, Haverhill and surrounding villages.

Dr Andy Mason, of the Suffolk Accident and Rescue Service, said "Some of the best ideas are simple and this is a perfect example, which I am sure will save lives".

Sponsors included St Edmundsbury Borough Council, Suffolk Police, NHS Primary Care Trusts, Neighbourhood Watch, and St Edmundsbury Community Partnership.
